general-william-tecumseh-shermanThe New York Stock Exchange opened up a little strong today. It didn’t open with a lot of strength mind you but it was just enough to move sellers out of their paradigm and start buying. I guess it had much to do with the move overnight. I personally thought we were going to sell into the open but that just goes to show you my aptitude with trading.

I wasn’t able to make heads or tails of the open enough to generate a good PnL push so I just left things the way they were and was thankful that the one small move that happened happened in my favor. I wasn’t playing with much size today so all in all, I ended up breaking even after commissions – nothing won, nothing lost. I traded Feeder Cattle and Cocoa as well but I lost a handful of ticks on both so things just didn’t really click for me in that department. It did occur to me to trade Orange Juice but given the obvious circumstances, I just wasn’t comfortable with how the market was moving and so decided to leave things alone.

I won’t go into a long drawn out post with this because whatever eloquent sentence/paragraph/image that needed to be posted has been posted. I will however say that the power of the United States is an amazing one. The nation’s journey from that fateful day has been a long and winding road fraught with both international and domestic ideological disputes – but in the end, the wisdom of the founding fathers and the devices they put into The Constitution did its job, even when our country was stretched to its ideological limits. Whenever I look at the flag hanging on my doorstep, that’s what I think about – the big picture. This was the same mode of thought the writers of our Constitution were in as they drafted the foundations of how our government would react to what happened on this day back in 2001. I’m not only lucky to have my relationship with God, I’m also lucky that I live in the greatest nation on earth.
